
On October 10th, 2011, Professor Jesús Ávila de Grado was designated as the new Scientific Director of the Center for Networked Biomedical Research on Neurodegenerative Diseases, CIBERNED. Previously, he had been the Scientific Deputy Director, also in CIBERNED, after a long career devoted to research on Alzheimer’s disease.
Professor Ávila is a member of the editorial committees of several leading journals in his field and his scientific work has been reported in numerous international publications. Jesús Ávila has been President of the Spanish Society of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology and he is an elected member of the “Academia Europaea”, EMBO, and also holds Nr. 46 from the Royal Academy of Science.
Dr. Ávila has received numerous awards and honors for his scientific work, among them: Lilly Research Award, the Award of the Community of Madrid and the National Research Award Santiago Ramón y Cajal.
